Witness to the Truth” is an excellent resource for history instructors, as this memoir will give students an opportunity to explore and understand complex issues of class, race, and discrimination in a simple and non-intimidating manner. The story also teaches students about persevering beyond all odds. Literature/English instructors are also using the book in their classrooms. Cleo is available for student and/or faculty lectures, discussions, and other types of assemblies. Prior to the release of her book, Cleo was also a regular speaker in the schools on career days, for black history month, and for talks relating to making good choices. She has spoken across the country for colleges, middle and high schools, civic groups, historical societies, churches, libraries, book clubs and for many other types of audiences. She touches audiences as only someone can who has personally lived so much history. Students often think of the Civil Rights era as long ago and are surprised at the first-hand accounts coming from someone who isn’t a senior citizen. Cleo has the extraordinary ability to make the complex issues of race and class more understandable to students and teachers alike.

Most requested topics for discussions and lectures:

  • The Civil Rights Era and its impact on the current generation
